This is a really energising and tasty smoothie, it has a nice texture and colour and it is full of nutritional highlights. The best quality about this smoothie is that it’s not too sweet, it’s rather refreshing. It’s ingredients are really simple, but all these ingredients improve each other.
The key ingredient here is spinach, because it’s well known for its nutritional qualities and has always been regarded as a plant with remarkable abilities to restore energy, increase vitality and improve the quality of the blood. Spinach is rich in iron. Iron plays a central role in the function of red blood cells which help in transporting oxygen around the body, in energy production and DNA synthesis. Spinach is also an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C and folic acid as well as being a good source of manganese, magnesium, iron and vitamin B2. Vitamin K is important for maintaining bone health and it is difficult to find vegetables richer in vitamin K than spinach.
Also the amount of C vitamin from one glass of this smoothie is enough for your daily need. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant essential for everyday health. You need vitamin C to ward off damaging free radicals that destroy healthy cells throughout your body. Vitamin C also keeps your immune system strong, helps wounds heal properly and aids the absorption of a certain type of iron. Because of vitamin C’s many roles throughout your system, meeting your daily intake is important.
- handful of spinach
- half a lemon
- 2 oranges
- 1 apple
- 1 teaspoon spirulina (powdered algae). You don’t have to add spirulina, but it would definitely add extra nutrition to your smoothie
Squeeze out the juice from lemon and oranges. Slice the apple to little pieces. Mix all ingredients together with hand blender or in blender.
Tip: you can use also frozen spinach as I did, because freezing remains the same qualities of spinach as it is in fresh.
Tip: In order to get the benefit of a freshly squeezed juice you must drink it right after it is made, because after 15 minutes it starts to oxidise and the vitamins will be lost
